Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why do I have different file formats in the software I downloaded?

We like to include different file formats for our customers to make sure they have the file types they need to work with.  Here is a listing of the file types you might see in your download.

CDR - These are CorelDraw files and should be opened using CorelDraw 7 or higher
AI  - These are Adobe Illustrator files and should be opened using Illustrator 7 or higher.  You may also 'import' them into many graphics programs.
EPS - These are Encapsulated Postscript files that can be imported as vector-based images into many graphic programs including but not limited to Coreldraw, Illustrator, Canvas, Harvard Graphics, SmartDraw etc.

2. How do I find the graphic I'm looking for?  There are too many images/pages to browse through.

Please note the search field at the top right corner of all pages.  This is where you would enter a keyword describing the graphic you're looking for.  For instance, if you are looking for bear mascot art only, then enter the keyword 'bear' in the search field.  All products with bear graphics incorporated in them will then display in a results page.  If you are looking for templates only, then simply enter the word 'templates' in the search field and all templates we currently carry will be displayed.

3. Why can't I see some of your templates - like the 'Daily Delivery'?

Some of our products are kept private for our trade industry customers.  We do this for several reasons but the most important one is to provide our industry trade customers with designs that they can uniquely offer on custom jobs for their clients.  We display enough of our designs to allow our customers to have an extremely accurate idea of the quality we deliver.  If you require illustrations for client jobs on an ongoing basis, you should consider our private services like the 'Daily Delivery'.

 4. Why can't I open the files in my graphics program?

You might be running into a problem relating to non-compatibility for vector images.  All of our clipart images are created with vector objects and saved as "encapsulated postscript" (.eps) files, "CorelDraw" (.cdr) files and "Adobe Illustrator" (.ai) files because they offer the widest compatibility and manipulation opportunity. If your program does not open these formats, please go to www.xnview.com and download the xnview image viewer/converter.  This is a powerful program that you may use as a free trial.  You will be able to convert our files into many different formats - certainly some of the conversion formats will be compatible with your software program.
NOTE: If you do not wish to install xnview on your system - please read the next FAQ for a web based alternative.

5. How can I open your art in my raster-based paint program?

If you are trying to work with the images in a raster-based paint program, you may use the following tool to convert the eps file to jpg. Go here: http://magick.net4tv.com/MagickStudio/scripts/MagickStudio.cgi and convert the image(s) you wish to open in your existing software.  This is a free service that allows you to convert our vector-based eps image  to a bitmapped .jpg image. This will certainly open in your pixel/bitmapped based program.  This service even allows you to create special effects and manipulate the image in many different ways!

6. How do I change the fonts in a template using Coreldraw?

The fonts are all pre-enveloped for use in CorelDraw.  This simply means that you can select text in a template, replace it with your text and the font shape will pop right in the same way it was.  This works on every font except the circular fonts (fonts that circle a design).

Simply select the text you wish to alter by clicking on it.  In the CorelDraw menu, select:

<Text> then <Edit Text>
At this point a popup window will appear with the original text you selected to change.  Highlight this text and type your new text in the popup window.  When finished, select <OK>.  That's all there is to it!  Now your custom text will pop in exactly as we originally placed it.  You may alter this text any way you see fit or leave it as is.

7. I can't seem to change the fonts that go in a circle around a design.  How do I change these fonts?

These fonts are 'Fit To Path' fonts.  We left the paths in each template giving you the ability to replace them with your text.  Here are the simple steps to do this:

1. Select the font you want to change.
2. Select 'Straighten Text' form the text menu
3. Replace the text with your own text.
4. Select your text and our text path that we left for you.
5. Select "Fit Text To Path" from the text menu.

NOTE: When you use the "Fit Text To Path Tool" in Coreldraw, you must adhere to certain guidelines.
1. Try and keep the font the same size as what you see on our design
2. When you type your font onto the screen, don't stretch it up, down or right, left before fitting to path. You should only proportionally increase or decrease the size.
3. Don't make a string of words solong that they wrap clear around and overeach other again.  If this happens, then "proportionally" reduce the font to fit then wrap it again.
4. If you find that a font is not fitting properly on the circle, simply "UNDO" and correct the size of text and Fit To Path Again.

8. How do I change the fonts in a template using Illustrator?

Illustrator does not have an envelope tool that allows holding-in-place of the predesigned text font.  Simply delete our text curves and add your own font using the Illustrator text tools.

9. Where are all the Coreldraw templates in the Combo Kit?  I only see one template!

Coreldraw has the ability to store many pages of graphics in one file.  Open your Combo Kit file and look down at the bottom of the CorelDraw window.  You will see page tabs numbering 1-50.  Each one of these tabs is a Combo Kit template!

10. I customized one of the templates (in my Combo Kit) and I only want to save it and not the rest of Combo Kit templates!  How do I save only one template from my Combo Kit file?

This is actually pretty simple if one knows what to do ;-)   First, make sure you have a backup of the template file so you always have the original templates in the way they were delivered.  When you open your template file and modify one of them simply select <EDIT> then <SELECT ALL> then <SELECT ALL OBJECTS>.  This will select all the elements of the design you just made (only on the page you're working on).  Then select <FILE> then <SAVE AS> when the 'save' menu pops up, you will see a little form box inside the menu that says "Selected Only" - CLICK THIS BOX.  This will allow you to save ONLY the image you just modified.  So, rename it and save it to your hard drive.  Now you have a file with only the one template in it!!

Also, instead of going through the 'Select All' sequence we described above, you can simply 'DOUBLE CLICK' on the CorelDraw select tool - the select tool is the arrow button at the top of your tools menu.  When you double click on this arrow, it will select all elements on the page thus saving you the time from having to run this command sequence:
Select <EDIT> then <SELECT ALL> then <SELECT ALL OBJECTS>

11. I get 'Font Missing' errors when I open your templates.  I need these fonts so I can see the templates in the way they were originally created!

No problem, you may download the fonts to our templates here:  http://www.jamnart.com/fonts.zip

12. How do I install the fonts on my computer?

The following instructions are for loading fonts into a Windows-based computer.

1. Select Start (bottom left of main Windows' screen)
2. Select 'Settings'
3. Select 'Control Panel'
4. Once your Control Panel opens, select
'Fonts'
5. Once your Fonts window opens, select 'File' then 'Install New Font'
6. Simply select the font(s) you wish to install and the Control Panel will do the rest.

13. I can't seem to ungroup your clipart when I open it in Coreldraw!  The art appears as on object and my ungroup command is grayed out - how do I fix this?

The problem is a file filter setting within CorelDraw and how it is interpreting the file you're trying to import.  You are probably selecting the encapsulated postscript (.eps) filter to open our .eps files.  To remedy this problem, select the Adobe Illustrator (.ai) filter to open our file or select no filter at all.  If you're still having problems, you will need to change your filter settings within CorelDraw itself.  The next question deals with this issue.

14. How do I change the filter settings within CorelDraw so I can import your art as vector art?

This should already be preset and automatic within your CorelDraw program but if you're having trouble importing, you may need to make the following change.

Select the following menu items:

<Tools>
<Options>
<Global>
<Filters>

In your 'Available File Types' window, make sure you have 'AI' as a file type under 'Vector'.  To accomplish this,  simply select the file type you wish to add in your right hand window and select 'add'.

15. I can't see thumbnail images of the eps files in my software program when I try to open or import the art files.  I need to be able to see each image as I scroll through to know which image I would like to import or open in my software program.

Our Xtraverter Tool will read and convert the eps files as well as dozens of different file formats. You might even consider converting (a copy) all the eps images to jpg and plaing the jpg images in the same folder as you have placed the eps images.  This would allow you to scroll through the directory and see a thumbnail of each image - once you find the image you wish to use, simply open the eps image file with that name.
